CONSERVATIVES' JUSTICE PLANS ARE WHAT CANADIANS WANT

Re: Tories' tough justice plans could backfire, expert says, May 5

People have been crying out for justice for years right across this
country, as loved one were victims of all kinds of crimes, some
brutal, and the guilty parties were given house arrest or some other
ridiculous sentence.

Now we have a government that will at least try to do something about
it, Simon Fraser University criminologist Bryan Kinney says
eliminating house arrest for a variety of crimes will not work and
putting people in jail will not solve the problem.

He's obviously forgotten one element in his argument: that ugly word
"punishment." Jail is primarily punishment for a crime.
Rehabilitation is only secondary.

It is nonsense to think every criminal can be rehabilitated. This
professor obviously buys into the cooked-up statistics from Ottawa
that violent crime is down. If this is true, why are police
departments constantly asking for more officers?

What we have been doing with the doctrine of appeasement has failed
badly, which is why people want change and true justice so badly.
Let's hope the Conservatives' proposals make it into law.
