VISION WANTS SAM TO PUT IT IN WRITING

Vision Vancouver councillors Tim Stevenson and Raymond Louie will
present a motion to council Tuesday calling for Mayor Sam Sullivan to
submit a written outline of his heroin maintenance proposal to city
staff for evaluation.

The motion comes after Sullivan told reporters last month that he
wanted to create a heroin maintenance program for female sex trade workers.

Sullivan hasn't given specifics on his plan, only saying that he
would rely on experts in the drug addiction field to determine how
such a program would work.

The mayor's talk of the program has attracted the attention of two
men with offers of money. Sullivan hasn't revealed the name of the
man with the $500,000 offer, but Marco Romero of Polaris Minerals
Corporation has offered $10,000.

Stevenson and Louie told the Courier in previous interviews that they
are concerned Sullivan's proposal would simply see drugs given to addicts.

The Vision councillors request that staff evaluate the mayor's
proposal as part of a progress report of the city's Four Pillars drug
strategy by June 30.

The council meeting begins at 2 p.m.
