SOUTHSIDE TEACHER ARRESTED ON POT CHARGE

A 27-year-old seventh-grade teacher at Southside Middle  School was
released on a personal recognizance bond  Wednesday night after being
arrested and charged with  having marijuana in his car at school.

Samuel Flores, who was on the school's seventh-grade  Maverick
teaching team, was arrested Tuesday during a  "routine drug sweep" at
the school, district  spokeswoman Nancy Thomas said.

"They bring in the drug dogs, and the dogs were in the  parking lot
and it was in his car," she said.

Flores was charged with possession of marijuana, with  bail originally
set at $1,600, although he was released  on the lesser bond. He was
placed on administrative  leave, Thomas said, while school officials
make a  decision.

The school's last teaching day is Friday, she said, and  teachers'
last day is Monday.
