LOOK AFTER ADDICTS THROUGHOUT THE CITY

No one wants to be called a NIMBY (Not in My Backyard), so the
Concerned Citizens of Dunbar are casting their opposition to a
proposed housing complex for addicts at Dunbar and 16th Avenue in
terms of being concerned about the quality of treatment that will be
offered.

It's funny that last month when CCD sent a flyer out to households in
the area, they were concerned about the prospect of drug addicts
roaming our leafy streets and complained that City Hall should
encourage a full debate.

As a homeowner in Strathcona 10 years ago, I objected to the
concentration of services in the Downtown Eastside, arguing
strenuously that addicts come from all communities and should get
services throughout the city. I still believe that and I called the
CCD to tell them I would be happy to be part of a debate about the
proposed housing site. Not surprisingly, they haven't called back.
