LET'S GET THE FACTS ABOUT INJECTION SITES

Re: "PM wrong to oppose safe-injection site," letter, June 2.

I hear a lot of opinions and rhetoric about the issue of
safe-injection sites. I, for one, would like to see the hard
statistics from such programs within Canada that show not just the
lives saved from overdoses but how many of the "clients" get into
rehab, get off drugs, and become fully functional members of society,
which surely should be the goal of this program.

What is the real success rate and track record ? How much has
drug-related crime been reduced as a result of such programs?
Otherwise, this becomes just another way to spend taxpayers' money on
a program that gives the appearance of doing something, while
achieving nothing.
