UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TESTED FOR DRUGS

BOGOR: The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) tested the urine of
students at the private Ibnu Khaldun University in Bogor on
Wednesday, ahead of National Antinarcotics Day on June 26.

BNN official Adj. Comr. Supardi said urine tests would also be done
at the University of Indonesia, Pancasila University and State High
School No. 1 in Bogor.

"Our records show Bogor has the highest rate of drug-related crimes
at 16,252 cases per year," he said while supervising the drug tests.

He said young people were the main target of the campaign because
more than 15,000 teenagers nationwide had died of an overdose in the
past five years.

Deputy rector Budy Bhudiman said only 200 students took the test
Wednesday because most of the university's 3,000 students were on
holiday after mid-semester exams.

"The BNN will give us the test results ... If a sample tests positive
we will inform the student's parents and ask them to join a
rehabilitation program. We will not expel them. They are not
criminals, they are victims," Budy said.
