PUT WAR ON BAD DRIVERS AHEAD OF WAR ON DRUGS

Serendipitous alignment of letters to the editor on Wednesday. A
letter at the bottom of the page asked why Vancouver Island drivers
disregard the law -- particularly that of staying to the right except
to pass -- and then answers his own question by observing that police
consistently fail to enforce these laws.

And why do police fail to enforce the driving laws? A letter at the
top of the page answers that. The police are too busy trying to do
the impossible -- winning the war on drugs -- to bother with the
scofflaws who affect far more of us than do drug dealers.
