IN A LITERAL SENSE, METH DOES NOT CAUSE BLINDNESS

In a recent article on the problems posed by methamphetamine in
Siskiyou County entitled "Methamphetamine and its effects on the
human body," Dr. Pat Brown of Behavioral Health was quoted as saying,
"Meth damages the brain's pathways and can make one blind."

Brown said the comment was taken out of context. He said meth does
not physically cause a person to go blind.

"What I was saying is it causes people (who use meth) to become
emotionally blind to other people's pain," Brown said. "It doesn't
actually make the person go blind."
