TO WIN AN UNWINNABLE WAR

Apropos your June 18 article "Calderon's Unwinnable War," I believe
the war on drugs is not "seemingly" unwinnable, as you say--it's
absolutely unwinnable using the strategies we are using today. The
only way we (or Mexico) can win the war on drugs is the same way we
won the war on the alcohol cartels--by re-legalizing the prohibited
products so they can be sold by licensed, regulated and taxed business
establishments for pennies per dose. Will this eliminate our drug
problem? No. However, it will substantially reduce our crime rate and
increase public safety.
