METH USE DOWN ACROSS BROCKTON

It Appears That Methamphetamine Is No Longer The Drug Of Choice
Across Brockton.

South Bruce OPP Sgt. Carl Cameron told the Police Services Board last
month that contrary to the last year, most drug-related charges laid
in the municipality of late have not been due to meth use.

"The meth supply is not as prevalent anymore as what other drugs
are," Cameron said in an interview last week. "The bigger problem is cocaine."

Police are doing whatever they can to lay charges wherever possible,
noted Cameron, regardless of which illegal drug is involved.

"We're investigating on the streets," he said. "We take it all seriously."

Although the apparent increase in cocaine use locally is a huge
concern to officers, Cameron said it is a relief to many that meth, a
notoriously inexpensive drug, is no longer seeing such widespread use.

"The presence of meth in Brockton has been reduced significantly.
We're making good progress in that area," he said.

Cameron also announced that the South Bruce OPP detachment has
implemented a new way to track its traffic complaints.

Cameron said that when a Brockton resident contacts police with a
traffic complaint, it is now entered into a section of the
detachment's computer system where frequent checks are required.

"If people are complaining about a particular location where there
are traffic problems, we put it in the computer and revisit it
several times rather than just take the one complaint and deal with
it that day. We will visit that location as many times as we can," he said.

Cameron said the new tracking system is allowing police to crack down
on areas where problems traditionally reoccur throughout the year.
