LONG OVERDUE

I am very glad you covered the story about the proposed long-term
residential drug treatment centre near Keremeos, as I firmly believe
more treatment centres are needed in B.C.

What makes this important is that long-term rehabilitation facilities
have a much higher rate of success, which is surely a better use of
our money and effort.

Currently, several government services, particularly expensive
health-care services, provide only Band-Aid solutions when drug
addicts hit rock bottom. More care in the prevention and
rehabilitation areas is clearly a better use of resources.

Increasing the number of long-term addiction treatment centres is long overdue.
