SUSPECTED DRUG DEALER SHOT DEAD

KULAI: A suspected drug dealer was shot dead by police near his
house in Taman Khet Loong Sunday.

Lai Foo Keong, 40, was trying to run away -- after his car landed in
a drain following a chase -- when in the ensuing struggle a
policeman was shot in the left arm.

The policeman shot Lai in self-defence, killing him on the spot. The
incident took place just 100m from Lai's home.

Earlier, policemen on crime prevention rounds spotted Lai behaving
suspiciously in Taman Gunong Kulai.

They ordered Lai to stop but he sped off, and the police gave chase
for over 3km before he lost control of his vehicle.

Police found ecstasy pills, methamphitamine and ketamine in Lai's car.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hussin Ismail saidinitial (sic)
investigations revealed that Lai was wanted for a gang robbery and a
murder of his wife.

"We believe Lai had assaulted his wife Tay Bee Bee on Thursday,
resulting in the 35-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries.
She died on Saturday," he said, adding that Lai had two criminal
records involving drug-related cases.

The couple leave behind three children, aged nine, 12 and 15.
