SENDING A VERY BAD MESSAGE

I read with interest the Oct. 6 story about the Hoggard football
game. (The headline) caught my attention: "Vikings win one for No. 10."

As I read the story, I was sure the player being talked about must
have suffered an injury or some other personal hardship ...
preventing him from playing in the game. But no ... I was amazed to
read that ... he had been arrested earlier in the week on two felony
drug charges. The team dedicated the game to this player!

What kind of message are we sending to our youth when we place
someone on a pedestal and honor him after being arrested on felony
drug charges? To think that the coach would allow this, and that your
paper would report it, is just incredible.
