MAKING A DIFFERENCE

What is our government doing to stop the growing conflict of the war
on drugs? I can't necessarily answer that question for you; however I
can tell you that a group of very determined, highly educated and
extremely persuasive high school seniors are here to help and we go
by the name of District Drug Free All Stars. We, as a group,
participate in many different community activities, campaigns and
school programs that bring awareness to the underage drinking and
drug use problems here in Angelina County in the hopes of making a
difference in our schools and communities.

With Red Ribbon Week coming into full swing I am anxious to
participate in the Drug Free Jamboree at the Civic Center (October
23rd from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) not only because this is a fun event;
but mainly because by participating and bringing awareness to the
issue I have the chance to make a difference in someone's life. And
that is our goal as All Stars - to make a difference, to help at
least one person to a better life. Red Ribbon Week was founded on
that very idea in 1988 and has since reached the lives of millions of
U.S children.

My challenge to you this week is to be the difference instead of
being indifferent. Find someone in your life that needs your guidance
and support to stop their addictions so they can live to be the best
they can be - which is drug free.
