THE PUSH TO LEGALIZE POT ISN'T CUT AND DRIED

Re: Legalize pot, a key drug fuelling gang wars, Ian Mulgrew, Nov. 12

It is disappointing to see Ian Mulgrew promoting the legalization of
pot and I hope it never happens. I live in multi-unit housing where I
am surrounded by neighbours who smoke tobacco and marijuana on a
daily basis. The smell is disgusting and nauseating. More
importantly, the resulting exposure to second-hand smoke from these
substances is downright dangerous. Even though I never smoked, I
developed lung disease from my neighbours' secondhand smoke.

How many other people will be made sick and how many people will die
prematurely from second-hand smoking before city officials enact
bylaws to protect the health of innocent people in their homes? Pot
smokers should not kid themselves; there is more tar in marijuana
than cigarettes. Quite simply, if smoking is dangerous on a
restaurant patio, it is dangerous in multi-unit housing and should
likewise be banned.
