U.S. JAILS ARE WORKING

Letter writer Carl Anderson mistakenly believes the U.S. justice
system is a failure. He is among millions of Canadians who have been
lost in media hype and who still have no idea that the U.S. is now a
safer place than Canada.

Most of Canada's recent violent crime increase is directly related to
increasing drug crime. So is it any wonder that the U.S. violent crime
rate in 2006 was 473.5 per 100,000, while Canada's was 951?

Since increasing its rates of incarceration in the early '90s, the
U.S. has been steadily improving, and we have been getting worse.
