COPS TRAIN TO TACKLE DRUG BUSTS

Local police are preparing themselves to better deal with drugs in
Morden.

Two officers recently completed a three week drug investigative
techniques course at the Canadian Police College in Ottawa.

Cst. Sean Aune and Cst. Sean O'Brien received training in various
aspects of drug investigations from recognizing various drugs to
search warrants and developing information sources.

The course involved both classroom instruction as well as practical
experience where they took to the streets to put some of their new
knowledge to use, noted police chief Brad Neduzak.

He expected the training would pay dividends for the Morden Police
Service, especially given "the increase and complexity of these types
of investigations in Morden.

"It is crucial that we continue to train in these specialized areas in
order to give our members the tools they need to provide the best
service for the community."

Drug bust Nov. 30

The Morden Police Service were able to illustrate the need for that
kind of training recently with the arrest of a local woman on drug
charges.

They searched a Morden home November 30 and seized about $1,000 worth
of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia and money.

A 23-year-old Morden woman is charged with possession of a controlled
substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of
trafficking, and is to appear in Morden court in January.
