PARENTS WERE RIGHTLY CONCERNED

In defence of the raid that took place in full view of children, Bob
Wratten in his letter Feb. 16, "Support police officers," admonishes
parents who were rightly afraid for the safety of their children at a
nearby school.

If he is so convinced that the men in question might have sold drugs
to children, why can't parents be concerned about men running around
with loaded rifles in close proximity to children?

We are asked to commend the police for doing their job. The job of
the police in a free society is to protect and defend citizens from
violent criminals, not to arrest people for the substances they
choose to ingest into their bodies. If Ritalin and other legal
narcotics were not so popular, perhaps the public schools would be
raided as well.
