RESEARCH BEING REASSESSED

Editorial,

Daily Herald:

Thank you for publishing a story on the history of LSD research in
Saskatchewan (Feb. 20, 2007).

What author Paul Spasoff fails to mention, unfortunately, is that the
pioneering work done in Weyburn is currently being favourably
reassessed by the medical community.

For example, MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic
Studies, www.maps.org) is an organization comprised of accredited
scientists and physicians who are actively seeking to conduct
research on the therapeutic potential of drugs such as LSD,
psilocybin and ayahuasca.

Given the prevalence of dependence on drugs such as alcohol and
cocaine today, and the dearth of effective addiction treatments, the
medical community would do well to rekindle this promising area of research.
