ALBANY WOMAN CHARGED IN BOYFRIEND'S HEROIN DEATH

ROCKFORD, ILL-An Albany woman is charged with murder in the December 
death of her boyfriend, whom Rockford, Ill., police say overdosed on 
heroin she gave him.

Albany police and Green County deputies on Thursday arrested [Name 
redacted], 36, of 202 Milwaukee St., on a charge of drug-induced 
homicide in the death of her boyfriend, Max A. Huffman, 52, Albany.

[Name redacted] waived extradition and was transferred Monday to jail 
in Winnebago County, Ill., where her bond is $50,000.

On Dec. 10, [Name redacted] and Huffman, along with two people from 
the Albany area, traveled to Rockford to meet with a former Albany 
resident who now lives there, Rockford Police Deputy Chief Greg Lindmark said.

Michelle [Name redacted]The group purchased heroin, he said, and 
Balasia gave Huffman the drugs that caused him to overdose at the residence.

[Name redacted] and Huffman later were dropped off at Swedish 
American Hospital in Rockford, and hospital officials notified police.

An autopsy confirmed Huffman died from a drug overdose.

[Name redacted] is the only person charged in connection with 
Huffman's death, a spokesman for the Winnebago County State's 
Attorney Office said.
