SUPPLY AND DEMAND

Re: Stop export of 'B.C. bud': U.S. drug boss, Feb. 23.

Perhaps Canadian and American citizens would be better served if U.S.
drug czar John Walters concentrated on domestic issues rather than
interfering with Canadian policy.

Mr. Walters should be aware that consumer demand drives production
and supply. If Americans didn't demand good Canadian marijuana, then
it would not be produced or exported to the U.S. If Americans could
be persuaded that this product wasn't beneficial, there would be no
need for him to take wasteful junkets to stir up controversy with his rhetoric.

History has taught us that supply will always rise to meet demand.
That basic law of economics cannot be legislatively amended. But then
again, history has always taught us that the Afghanistan cannot be
conquered. Perhaps History 101 should be a prerequisite for U.S. bureaucrats.
