MONTREAL POLICE TO PROBE DEATH OF WOMAN WHO DIED IN SQ
RAID

She Fell Unconscious After Drugs Found: Surete

A 43-year-old woman died in police custody early Saturday in St.
Zotique, about 60 kilometres west of Montreal.

Montreal police have taken over the investigation of the death, which
occurred while Surete du Quebec officers were executing a search
warrant for a house on rue Principale in the course of an
investigation into a drug network.

Just before midnight, the woman showed up at the home. Police searched
her and found drugs, but when they tried to arrest her she fell
unconscious for unknown reasons, Montreal police said.

Officers and paramedics performed CPR to no avail, and the woman was
pronounced dead in a Valleyfield hospital a few hours later.

An autopsy will be performed tomorrow, at the earliest, said Montreal
police Constable Robert Mansueto. Toxicology tests could take several
weeks, he added.

A man and a woman were arrested at the residence on rue Principale the
night of the drug raid, police said. The SQ provided no information
yesterday about possible charges against the pair.
