A STUDENT CHOOSES

D.A.R.E. Report

In the D.A.R.E. program, Constable Leiding taught me about making good
decisions using the D.A.R.E. decision making model and being confident
about myself in dangerous situations.

I was surprised with how tobacco companies try to influence young kids
into smoking just so they can make a living. If I worked for a tobacco
company, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night because I would know I
would be killing someone every day. I now know the effects of drugs
and smoking on myself and others around me.

I'm happy I know some helpful ways to say no, such as; using humour,
walking away from the situation and using a cold shoulder. I also know
some facts like smoking kills 45,000 people a year and second hand
smoke kills 700 people a year. I also know that a cigarette has over
200 known poisons that lead to heart cancer, liver disease and many
other sicknesses. I know that marijuana has more tar than any other
drug.

I promise I will never get involved with any kinds of drugs or
violence in the future or any time soon.

Sincerely,

Daniel Kostiuk
