PROGRAM GIVES STUDENTS A READ ON DRUG ABUSE

A new drug education program in Oliver is aiming to help educate and
increase awareness about drug abuse.

The 144-page handbook called Drug Safety is being presented to Oliver
students in grades 6 and 7.

While the book will provide information and safety tips for youth, it
will also provide an excellent resource for parents. The book will
provide guidelines for youth about how to resist peer pressure, as
well as tips for information to help keep children drug-free. The
book also includes resource contacts, including both phone numbers
and e-mail addresses.

The books, which are produced by Gateway Community Safety net, were
provided through financial assistance from local businesses and
organizations and introduced to schools to the Lions and Lioness
Clubs in Oliver.
