ADMIT IT: THE WAR ON DRUGS HAS BEEN LOST

Re: Charged Canadian's Family Fears Harsh Dubai Drug Sentence, story;
Legalizing Drugs Would Stop Gangs ? Or Would It Just Cause New Problems?
letters to the editor, all June 16.

The Saturday issue of the Post was very interesting. In the letters
area, the vote was 2-1 in favour of legalizing and regulating the drug
trade. In the news section, an article explained Dubai's four-year
sentence for drug possession.

It seems to me that there are only two practical solutions to the drug
problem: You either legalize drugs, or follow the Dubai procedure
(i.e. kill the dealers and jail the users). The current methods are
financing criminal gangs, undermining our police forces, filling our
jails and accomplishing nothing. The war against drugs is lost. Get
serious or surrender.
