IT'S HIGH TIME WE RELAXED OUR LAWS AGAINST MARIJUANA

Re: "The wrong course on marijuana," July 20.

Your editorial struck all of the right notes. Both the American and
Canadian approach to controlling the use of marijuana is completely wrong.

It irritates me every time I read of another marijuana bust. The cost
of the busts to society compared to the benefits is unjustified. I
agree that any possible negative side effects from the use of
marijuana pale by comparison to the negative impacts from other
drugs, from cigarettes or from alcohol.

It is time to benefit from the Dutch experience and legalize the use
as soon as possible. For the record, I have never used, nor do I
intend to use marijuana.

Jack McLellan,

Victoria.
