LEGALIZING DRUGS WOULD LOWER OVERALL CRIME RATE

I'm writing about Howard J. Wooldridge's outstanding letter: Retired
Cop Recommends Ending Drug Prohibition, July 28.

If we re-legalized all of our now illegal drugs, would this end our
drug problems? No.

However, it would dramatically lower our overall crime rate and
dramatically increase public safety.

Of course, some will say we should perhaps legalize crimes like rape,
robbery and murder to lower our crime rate. They ignore the fact that
crimes like rape, robbery and murder have unwilling victims.

In a drug transaction there are willing buyers and willing sellers --
thus no unwilling victims. The only victim is the government that
collects no taxes on the transaction.
