CANNABIS CLASH

I'm writing about the not-so-thoughtful letter from Aled Jones
(Alcohol is the puppy compared to cannabis, December 22).

Here in the United States, our annual alcohol vs. cannabis kill ratio
is about 100,000 to zero.

In the 5,000-year history, there have never been any documented deaths
from its use. So where is the danger from the natural herb?

Smoking cannabis is not good for the lungs, but it does not cause
cancer because it lacks nicotine - the prime cancer-causing ingredient
of tobacco.

If Mr Jones feels cannabis is dangerous he is free to not use
it.

I don't drink tea because I don't like it. However, I don't advocate
that tea consumers be arrested and jailed for using it. I'd like to
suggest that Mr Jones adopt a similar attitude toward cannabis.
