QUANTITY OF MEDICAL POT AT HOME IS BEING LOOKED INTO

A Port Coquitlam home was broken into Thursday afternoon in an
apparent grow rip attempt.

The property, which is surrounded by a high chain link fence topped
with barbed wire, has two outbuildings that are monitored with
surveillance cameras and motion detector lighting. Several long stacks
of black plastic planters could be seen through the side gate, which
had been made from two wooden fences stacked on top of each other. The
home's front door is protected by a metal front gate.

Coquitlam RCMP were called to the scene shortly before 1 p.m. after
the suspect broke in through a window and somebody called 911. They
arrested one man and say he's associated with the house in the
2400-block of Ottawa Street but they're not sure yet whether he's an
owner or tenant.

"Part of what we're looking into are indications that it is a grow
operation," said Cpl. Brenda Gresiuk.

The home is a licensed medicinal marijuana operation but Gresiuk said
the regulations are stringent on how many plants can be grown. She
said investigators would be checking to make sure those rules had been
followed.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Coquitlam
RCMP at 604-945-1550.
