COURT RULING LUDICROUS

"What is more private than a person's home?"

I find the Supreme Court ruling that searches and the use of "sniffer"
dogs can only be done in cases where there is "just" cause, to be
ludicrous given the times we are living in.

Adults, young adults and children do not usually disclose to the
public when they are about to or have planned an illegal act against
society. The element of surprise, secrecy, cover-up, hiding et al is
usually the modus operandi of all criminals, terrorists and deranged
individuals whether the criminal act they are the architects of is
violent, non-violent or merely peddling drugs, guns, doing burglary,
identity theft etc.

Therefore, that is why since post 9/11 our so called "rights" to
privacy no longer exists at Airports, Border crossings and other
points of sensitive infrastructure.

When we saw the devious and totally uncivilized actions of the
terrorists involved in 9/11 and further incidents like concealing bomb
material in shoes to bring down a commercial airliner most intelligent
and reasonable people should realize that the "rights" we once enjoyed
can or should no longer be taken for granted if we are to avoid future
catastrophes.

Canada is a multicultural society much, like if not more so than the
USA and Great Britain is and we do not know in many instances who, is
living next to us or what their intentions might be. No one thought
that the 9/11 terrorists in the USA were who they were and the same
was true with those carrying out the terrorist act against Britain's
transit system. Canada too had its own catastrophe with the Air India
disaster. These people are very clever, secretive, devious, and they
have no respect for human life.

This type of mentality by extension applies to drug pushers, deranged
and other criminal elements that are intent on plying their violent
ways on society and which includes innocent children and young people
attending schools/universities. How often do we hear about massacres
at schools in the USA which is followed by comments from students and
others suggesting "They never suspected or thought that the shooter
could do such a thing?" Let us not kid ourselves that Canada is not
like the USA, because we need only recall the tragedy at the Ecole
Polytechnique school on December 6/89.

I suggest with respect that the Supreme Court has passed a ruling
based on what times in Canada use to be maybe 30 or 40 years ago and
which is now long obsolete. Police need to be given wider and more
relaxed parameters that will allow them to apprehend this criminal
element before they inflict their lawlessness on our society. And this
might mean that some of the "rights" we enjoyed in a kinder time have
to be sacrificed but this is a small price to pay if we are serious in
addressing the complex criminal element we all face to-day, including
those who are infiltrating our schools peddling and using drugs and
guns!

As for the caption of the article "What is more private than a
person's home" to justify our "rights" let us reflect on this thought.
Many homes to-day some in very affluent areas of our urban and rural
sectors are commonly used to grow marijuana, deal drugs, push illegal
weapons, create child and other porn, houses of prostitution and to
conduct sophisticated criminal activity like money laundering etc. All
of which we are told by our Governments are serious social and
economic impediments that is costing not only lives but billions of
tax dollars to address.

I think we all need to re-think and put into perspective our position
on "rights" if we want to stay alive, keep our kids and loved ones
safe in an environment that is far more dangerous than the Canada we
knew only a few decades ago!
