A PLACE TO LEARN

Re: We must permit random checks at schools, May 1.

Letter writer David Eaton approves of random searches in schools
because some students sell drugs. But where does it end?

Most dealers or users keep their drugs on them -- should students
themselves be randomly searched? Their bookbags and pencil cases? Why
not their houses?

Schools are already an invasive and unfriendly place. In order to
learn, students need to want to be there, and treating them as
terrorists won't help. I applaud the Supreme Court's decision.
