HYDRO COULD HELP ITS CUSTOMERS

Re: Coquitlam improving inspection program, May 14

It is good to know that Coquitlam is adapting its "inspection
program" because there may yet be some innocent homeowner/occupants
who get falsely targeted and tainted by a local government/police
inspection visit. And BC Hydro can and should do something about it
because public safety and crime don't always go hand in hand. Public
safety should be addressed differently.

For example, when the electrical heater unit in our hot tub began
consuming massive amounts of electricity, BC Hydro was strangely
silent. We discovered the "excess use" on reviewing the bi-monthly
billing and checked all the circuits to identify the source of the
consumption. And we've been buying electricity from BC Hydro and
living at the same address for 23 years. Wouldn't it have been lovely
to have the utility target us for a "police visit"?

Shouldn't BC Hydro tell its long-standing customers of a significant
increase in electrical consumption so a potential safety issue can be
identified immediately? That would be "power smart!"
