Some of the objectives that guide the organization are: . The protection of the fundamental freedoms essential to the democratic system. . The promotion of legal protections against unreasonable invasion by public authority of the freedom and dignity of the individual. . The promotion of fair procedures for the resolution and adjudication of conflicts and disputes. Recently, the Supreme Court ruled the RCMP overstepped its bounds by allowing a sniffer dog to search in a school for drugs and all charges resulting from the search had to be dropped. The case made it to the Supreme Court through action by the CCLA. I guess it is now legal for students to bring their drugs to school. Don't get me wrong, only a small percentage of students use and peddle drugs, but now that the CCLA has become involved, these predators have free reign. My question is, do we need a watchdog like the CCLA? If that is the kind of "freedom" they protect, the organization would do more for society if they were disbanded. The CCLA state it is a non profit, non government law reform organization dealing with issues of fundamental civil liberties and human rights that affect those who live all across Canada. As a parent, I consider any organization that condones drugs in schools to be infringing on my liberties. I don't care how the police or school officials rid their premises of drugs. Action has to be taken and has to be taken immediately. I don't care if they use sniffer dogs or Bengal tigers. Just get the job done. As for the CCLA, find something productive to do. That's the way I see it. Sincerely Ted Ross - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
