MARIJUANA -- POT NOT A PRIORITY

I am in total agreement with columnist Jim Stingl's May 23 view in
"Drug policy chases weeds, misses needs" about the event described by
one police officer as "a once-in-a-career bust." Yippee!

How about a once-in-a lifetime career bust for arresting and jailing
one-time drunken drivers? Marijuana never killed anyone, and if by
the slightest chance it did, well, the user knew the consequences.
Killing three people, as Mark Benson is charged with doing recently,
could have been prevented by jailing him long ago.

Citizens don't have to be shielded from marijuana; they need to be
shielded from drunken drivers who kill innocent people. Let's save
jail cells for those who murder with motor vehicles and not the
marijuana growers or smokers.
