WHACK-A-MOLE

Re: "Pot grow ops keeping police, fire busy" (June 19). Staff Sgt.
Pete Gauthier complains that so-called grow-op operators "seem to be
taking more caution."

According to medical growers I talk to, low power, low heat and high
output LED lights are increasingly being used as their price drops.
They have no heat signature, and show no power spike on the hydro
bill. Different ventilation systems are also being used, as Gauthier
noted, so police are either going to have to adopt door-to-door
searches or keep relying on tips to keep up with an increasing number
of home gardens. Gauthier's game of futile whack-a-mole is about to
get a lot harder.
