U.S. DRUG DEMAND THREATENS MEXICO'S DEMOCRACY

The drug war is clearly doing great damage to Mexico as well as to
other Latin American countries, e.g., Colombia, in terms of lost lives
and a huge cost to their economies. I would argue that we have
actually supported terrorists groups by driving the price of drugs to
high levels.

This policy also, clearly, is not working. Both of these problems
deserve serious consideration, and our solution to them needs to be
rethought. We are only hurting the people of these countries and
ourselves by stupidly following a course that has not worked before
and will not work now.
