LOCAL OFFICIALS TALK POT SHOPS

BOULDER -- Representatives of several Boulder County cities and towns
swapped Wednesday night reports about how their communities are
addressing medical-marijuana dispensaries issues.

Superior has banned them.

Longmont, Louisville and Erie, all of whom had representatives at
Wednesday's Boulder County Consortium of Cities meeting, have imposed
moratoriums on accepting or approving applications for any new
medical-marijuana businesses, as has Lafayette, whose consortium
delegate didn't attend the meeting.

The Boulder City Council has adopted a set of temporary emergency
regulations it's applying to new dispensaries, such a rule requiring
them to be at least 500 feet away from a school or day-care center.

Boulder City Councilman Ken Wilson told other Consortium members that
42 medical-marijuana dispensaries already have Boulder sales-tax
licenses. But he said a November Boulder council hearing included
"three hours of public comment about why 42 isn't enough."
