MEDIA TO BLAME FOR GLAMOURIZING DRUGS, SMOKING

Stony Plain, a vibrant little community with a proud history and a
promising future. Stony Plain, a commonly known area for drug
infested sellers and users.

The two thoughts are paradoxical to one another, therefore the second
idea being put forward is not as emphasized.

Stony Plain is growing and who knows, may link up with Spruce Grove
and become a city.

Are our drug problems as great as our nearby neighbour Edmonton? For
most of us it is unknown, for to find problems you must look for them.

I would not know if the problem has become much worse, but I see it
as becoming increasingly more apparent. Drugs and binge drinking are
being perceived with a substantial amount of glamour and false recognition.

Quite often it starts at a very young age, and the problem becomes
progressively worse as the individual becomes older and further
addicted. It is a wonder how teens can afford packs of cigarettes a
day ranging from $10 to $15 per pack, dependant on the brand name.

Perhaps it is the image that they are after, the respect for
rebellion. Which is given quite often most readily by other peers.

The media could be blamed for portraying smoking and getting high in
a sexy and humorous manner because countless movies and TV series are
being made on that subject matter.

It is a popular demand hence they continue to be made and thrive. But
I do not believe that a ban should be put on the material in movies,
limiting the people to express their ideas. If a simple movie can
influence a teen to make poor choices then perchance the picture
itself is not the origin of the problem.

As we progress with time, drugs and alcohol accessibility have become easier.

Crystal Meth, a new and dangerously addictive drug can be easily made
with supplies purchased in your own community. Things have gotten
easier as we have succeeded and advanced in the world, yet we also
have made things more difficult for ourselves.

It is vital for a teen to know that there is support out there meant
to help them, even though it may not be simply found.

Life will never be the same as it is at that moment, and things will
change most often for the better. It is wise to plan for the future,
as it is near impossible to predict its happenings.

All we can do is to arm ourselves with knowledge, listen to other's
experiences and understand what you may be getting into.
