POT SMOKERS PUFF IN PUBLIC

Chanting "we're here, we're high, get used to it," marijuana
protesters fought yesterday to legalize the herb.

"Legalizing cannabis would improve our environment, ecology and
economy," said cannabis activist David Malmo-Levine. "Legalizing it
could solve a number of the world's problems."

He was speaking to a crowd about the importance of legalizing cannabis
on a day 250 other cities participated in a global marijuana march

Edmonton's group marched from City Hall, beyond the courts, around
Canada Place and back to the square to support the movement.

Participant Tyler Trueman said legalizing the herb would help put an
end to money waste, adding it would "improve the atmosphere
everywhere."

Talk of marijuana legalization has occurred in California and
Massachusetts where legalization bills have been brought forward.

On April 20, hundreds of Edmonton pot smokers marked 4:20 day - a
national celebration of marijuana and a protest against pot laws.
