AN UPSTANDING CITIZEN

Your editorial slamming Marc Emery was over the top and mean-spirited
in the extreme. As a retired grandmother who has never tried a joint
in my life, I have only respect for Emery and the work he is doing to
legalize a substance that is likely not as bad as beer. We need the
tax revenue from the marijuana industry.

Marc Emery is an upstanding citizen, a neighbour of mine in Coal
Harbour, a kind, generous man, who pays his taxes and gets involved in
community life.

I hope our government exercises some common sense and refuses to turn
him over to U.S. drug authorities for silly, trumped-up reasons. I
don't understand why his businesses would be shut down by the city.
The reputation he gives Vancouver is more entertaining than evil.
