THINK OF THE ECONOMY

The Vacaville City Council is not confused about medical marijuana ("Yet
another moratorium: Planning would nip this," June 2). It opposes
Proposition 215 and is engaged in a last-ditch fight to prevent the
voter's will from being fulfilled. They remind me of the South imposing
Jim Crow for a hundred years after losing the Civil War.

Proposition 215 got a 53 percent majority in Solano County in 1995 and
polls say that approval of medical marijuana has increased since then.
Obviously, the Vacaville City Council has no respect for democratic
principles.

The main "problem" with a medical marijuana dispensary is the fact that
the police cannot bust it. Businesses near dispensaries report increased
sales from customers of the marijuana outlets without any crime or
violence associated with medical marijuana.

Allowing medical marijuana outlets would have a positive effect on the
economy in Vacaville.
