DON'T FOLLOW U.S. MODEL ON CRIME

Re: Making a bid to increase crime, Letter Sept. 27

As a visitor to Toronto, I totally agree with letter-writer Russell
Barth that "crime" is now being manufactured to justify more police
and prisons.

This phenomenon is particularly noticeable in the United States where
even terminally-ill patients are made into criminals for attempting to
find relief through medical marijuana.

California jails are presently saturated with all sorts of non-violent
people who don't belong there, and it saddens me to see Canada
seemingly heading in the same direction.
