RESIDENT SEEKS TO FORM ANTI-POT-DISPENSARY GROUP

There's an anti-medical-marijuana-dispensary movement forming in
Windsor.

"I feel that the idyllic vision of Windsor is being disturbed by (the
growth of marijuana dispensaries in Windsor)," said Windsorite Bill
Miller.

Miller said while there's not a group formed to oppose the
dispensaries, there's a lot of community sentiment opposing them.

The first step is a meeting open to members of the community who
oppose the dispensaries. It will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 7 at
the Windsor Community Recreation Center, 250 N. 11th St.

"Other communities have prevented these dispensaries from coming into
town, and I don't understand why Windsor hasn't," he said.

The issue of medical marijuana first came before the Windsor Town
Board on Dec. 7, when the board discussed the possibility of a
moratorium on the businesses. Two had already opened, and at least
six were preparing to open in the coming weeks.

The town board passed a 75-day moratorium on Dec. 16, allowing two
businesses to remain open during the moratorium. They are In Harmony
Wellness, 4630 Royal Vista Circle, and A New Dawn Wellness Clinic,
520= Main  St.

A third business, MediGrow, 1295 Main St., Unit A, has continued to
operate in defiance of the moratorium, receiving daily citations from
Windsor police.

"I'm not rendering a judgment on the use of medicinal marijuana,"
Miller said. "But just because it's legal doesn't mean it should have
a presence in town."

Miller said he doesn't believe there should be any dispensaries in
town.

"I want to get rid of the two that are already here," he
said.

To that end, Miller said he'd like to form a group willing to picket
the businesses.

"We're going to stay within the bounds of the law," he
said.

"I've spoken with the police to make sure, and there's nothing wrong
with holding signs and having cameras mounted on car dashboards to
take pictures of the people going into and out of the
dispensaries."

Miller said he doesn't care whether the business owners want to be
good citizens.

"That doesn't cut any mustard with me," he said.

Miller said he also hopes to start a petition.

"If we make enough noise, we can force our elected officials to act,"
he said.

He feels that the presence of dispensaries in neighboring communities
and counties is sufficient to meet the needs of people in Windsor
with a need for their services.

"This is a wonderful town, and I've lived in many other places,"
Miller said. "But there is no room for discussion on whether
dispensaries should be in Windsor; they shouldn't."
