DAVIES TO BRING FORWARD MEDICAL MARIJUANA MOTION NEXT
MONTH

Coun. Joy Davies confirmed that she would be bringing forward a
resolution to the Feb. 8 meeting of council on the subject of access
to medical marijuana.

The resolution, which Coun. Davies hopes the city will bring to the
Association of Kootenay and Boundary Local Governments (AKBLG), is
still in the draft stage, she said. Therefore, she declined to comment
on specifics.

At the Jan. 11 meeting of council, Mayor Brian Taylor and Coun. Chris
Moslin said they would be bringing their own personal motions forward
to the AKBLG without looking for a motion from council. Taylor plans
to bring forward a motion protesting cuts to the gaming grant funds
received by local non-profit organizations. Moslin said he had two
motions: one to protest the short time frames given by the government
to complete projects, such as the Grand Forks trail project, which are
funded by grants; and a second one asking for the province to assist
municipalities in controlling urban wildlife.

When asked why she chose to present her resolution to council, Davies
said, "It needs to be debated."

Davies said the motion is being drafted by herself and is not the work
of the medical marijuana task force.

The AKBLG conference takes place in April. Motions that are approved
by the AKBLG go on to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities
(UBCM). Motions that are approved there benefit from the lobbying of
the UBCM.
