KIMBALL HOPES TO MEET WITH AMSDILLS

Township Supervisor Says Goal Is to Keep Compassion Center Open

KIMBALL TWP. -- Township officials hope to meet this week with the
owners of a business that's billed as a gathering place for
state-licensed medical marijuana users and caregivers.

Supervisor Rob Usakowski said the meeting originally had been planned
for Tuesday, the day a zoning ordinance regulating such businesses --
called compassion centers -- took effect.

The meeting was canceled, he said, because owners Debra and Jim
Amsdill had a scheduling conflict.

The goal of the meeting, Usakowski said, is to find a solution that
would allow the Amsdills to keep their business open.

Such a solution could include moving the business to an area where it
is permitted to operate under the new ordinance. Right now, the
business is in the Sawmill Commons strip mall, 4731 Lapeer Road, and
violates the ordinance because it's too close to a school.

The center is across the road from Landmark Academy, a charter school.

Officials also are trying to figure out exactly when the business
opened, Usakowski said, to determine whether the new ordinance applies.

The Amsdills have given conflicting information about when the
business opened, he said.
