"Writers on the Range: Marijuana stores get no respect," by Rob Pudim, Jan. 28 Pudim used to make cartoons for our newspaper and the Hungry Horse News, in Columbia Falls, Montana. That career went back to the 1980s. In his article or op-ed piece, Pudim says, "Meanwhile, Whitefish, an upscale Montana town, is being sued because it refuses to allow a pot store." Just to clarify, no lawsuit has been filed against Whitefish with regard to medical marijuana. There was a threat of a lawsuit. And the city does not refuse to allow medical marijuana stores. The city put in place an urgency ordinance to not allow medical marijuana dispensaries for six months while it figures out zoning. It did not put a moratorium on caregivers, who can continue business up to five patients apiece. The planning board will look at a draft zoning ordinance for medical marijuana sales Feb. 18. The zoning will likely be in place by April. Richard Hanners, Editor, Whitefish Pilot Whitefish, Mont. - --- MAP posted-by: Jo-D
