High hopes for hemp power

Instead of closing the coal-fired electrical plants, why not use
clean-burning materials to run them? Crops like industrial hemp are
cheap and easy to grow, and heal the soil as they grow, so they will
help other crops. It isn't a cure, obviously, and we might not be able
to grow quite enough right at first, but it could certainly offset
some of the costs and help generate energy. We'd have some cheap,
clean energy while also meeting our ever-greener international
pollution-reduction commitments.

(It's not certain that burning biomass like hemp produces fewer
emissions than coal.)
