RESIDENTS SHOULD VOTE ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA

La Plata County Commissioner Kellie Hotter has requested that
commissioners vote to put a question on the November ballot concerning
medical marijuana. The vote will occur July 13 during the normal
commission meeting at 10 a.m. in the County Courthouse.

This may be the most important issue ever brought to a vote in our
lifetimes, and it directly concerns the future of La Plata County and
the ability of Durango to attract high-paying, high-technology
businesses that would offset the city's fiscal dependence on tourism.

There are two commissioners who do not want you to have an opportunity
to vote on this important issue in November on the general ballot:
Wally White and Joelle Riddle. If these commissioners are allowed to
vote without voter input, La Plata County will follow in the footsteps
of California, where marijuana growers and dispensers initially sold
their product as "medicinal marijuana" but, in reality, now want to
sell marijuana to everyone older than 21.

This issue is actually on the ballot in November in California. Is
Colorado next and, in particular, La Plata County? Please plan to
attend the July 13 county commissioners' meeting so White and Riddle
will hear a resounding "no" to deciding this issue without your vote.
Make them hear your voices.
