Wallo MAYFAIR ONCE WAS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE The letter "Difficult seeing Mayfair decline" (Dec. 10) mentioned what a nice development the Mayfair subdivision was when the writer came here more than 40 years ago. Ditto. Mayfair was a home for many retired Navy officers and working people. You could ride a bike without being mugged. You did not need a Doberman for protection, or to lock your doors the minute it turned dark. We were proud of our homes with manicured yards and flowers. It was an enjoyable place to live. Now, the police are aware of the drug houses and drop sites. There is a shooting at one place almost every pay-day. It is impossible to get through Webster Avenue because of cars parked in the road, purchasing drugs with curb-service. Since the police are aware of this drug house, why not shut it down? If they want to clean up the Pensacola area, then enforce the laws and stop slapping robbers on the wrist. Put them away or put them on work detail. Too bad the old chain gang theory is obsolete. We need harsher treatment for continued law-breaking by an individual. That's what our taxes are supposed to cover. Marie D. Wallo Pensacola - --- MAP posted-by: Jo-D
