Becker said she's concerned about signs and ads that make claims about "effectiveness, potency; the benefits of medical marijuana." "I think there are legitimate public safety reasons why advertising is regulated," she said. "I think those apply here." Becker said she's supportive of allowing medical marijuana to be sold in Boulder, but she thinks the council should at least investigate its authority to regulate ads for it. Councilman Matt Appelbaum said he's "sympathetic to the problem" but wouldn't support spending time on the issue. "I don't want to open up a new front in this particular battle," he said. Councilwoman Suzy Ageton said she thinks the city's ability to regulate the ads is "very limited," but she supported figuring out just how much authority the city has on the issue. With the support of at least five council members, City Attorney Tom Carr will look into the city's options and report back to the council. Carr joked that the research would be a fun project. Also Tuesday night, the City Council approved several mostly technical changes to the city's medical marijuana code. The changes are designed to bring the city's rules for the industry in line with state law. - --- MAP posted-by: Matt
